Ali has been CEO of Progressa since its inception in 2013. Named by CB Insights in 2017 as 1 of 38 companies in the world helping the underserved, Progressa has invested over $5.0 million dollars in its proprietary credit score and software suite for enterprise partners looking to enhance their collections strategy in a positive way. In 2018, the Company also productionized a software solution for platform partners looking to offer point-of-sale financing solutions to credit-challenged Canadian consumers.
Under Ali’s leadership the Company has raised over $130 million of investor capital, including a successful $84 million Pre-IPO round in 2018. The company has grown to over 110 employees in Vancouver and Toronto and is expected to surpass over $100 million of consumer loans by early 2019.
Prior to co-founding Progressa, Ali worked in both corporate restructuring and audit & assurance, with the bulk of his professional career at PwC, where he managed top-tier engagements of financial firms. Born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Ali holds a Canadian Chartered Accountant degree and a BBA in Finance from Simon Fraser University. He began his professional career at a young age, co-founding a leading IT services firm with locations in Edmonton, AB and Vancouver, BC in 1998. Ali is also a regular contributor to Business in Vancouver's weekly technology panel and was named to BIV's Top 40 under 40 in 2017.
Tamara is a strategic leader who drives competitive advantage through people and culture within financial services. Most recently Tamara was with Cadillac Fairview as Senior Director, Human Resources and prior to that at OMERS where she established human resources strategic plans to attract, engage and retain top talent with diverse, inclusive and innovative programs for today and in the future. Prior to joining OMERS, Tamara was the Canadian regional head of HR for Private Banking, Asset Management and Trust at HSBC Canada, and held progressive HR, business development and technology positions at BMO, Charles Schwab and Scotiabank. Since 2015, Tamara has Chaired the Board HR & Nominating Committee of Dress for Success Toronto. She holds a global Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Rotman – University of Toronto.
Philipp is a product visionary, brand builder and an award-winning marketer who has been involved in the Vancouver tech scene for over 15 years. In 2013 he co-founded RentMoola, which continues to be one of North America's leading fintech companies with the mission to eliminate the rent cheque and modernize rent collection for the enterprise. Before that, he was a brand leader for Mogo Technologies and Wonga Canada and began his career at Electronic Arts. He is the founder of Grind For Kids, a program that raised over $1 million for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and sits on the Board of one of BC’s top independent schools.

Jim Chan is a technology and coding enthusiast whose passion is to work with talented engineers to build software that improves the lives of everyday people. Jim has over 15 years experience in designing and implementing backend APIs and web applications that perform and scale. Most recently, he was the VP, Engineering at Incognito Software Systems - a world class networking software company that competes with corporate giants like Cisco. By investing in people and listening to customers, Jim has a proven track record of leading high performing engineering teams to efficiently develop enterprise quality software that align with business needs. Jim has been a registered Professional Engineer in British Columbia since 2000.
Jeffrey is a strategic thought leader; with over 18 years of successful experience in growing and managing businesses, Call Centres, and dynamic cross-functional teams across multiple service locations on national and international levels. A proven track record of building effective and scalable operational business practices and teams that deliver optimal results and yield measurable outcomes. He is an entrepreneurial professional who founded a Real Estate Investment company in 2007, and in 2011 created and developed a PM online resource pairing site which was ranked 61,000 globally and just under 4000th most popular in India by Alexa.com.
A risk management and consumer lending veteran, Jason Wang is experienced in formulating actionable insights from data mining, and in leading innovations aided by his deep understanding of consumer credit behaviour and lending product dynamics. In his current role as Head of Risk Analytics with Progressa, Jason leads analytics in enterprise risk tolerance, predictive modeling, refinance campaigning, collection strategy, and growth initiatives. His commentary about industry trends has been frequently featured in the business section of key industry trade publications and national newspapers, and he has been regularly interviewed by Bloomberg, BNN, CTV, etc. Prior to joining Progressa, Jason held analytic leader roles at prominent organizations such as TransUnion, American Express, and CIBC. He received his MBA from New York University, and his bachelor’s degree in physics from Peking University. In addition, Jason is a CFA charterholder.
Daniel comes to Progressa with over 20 years of experience within the debt collection industry, both with collection agencies and law firms. His experience in Operations and Client Relations include such portfolios such as Canada’s Schedule “A” banks, financial institutions, Canada’s leading Telecommunication portfolios along with Government portfolios at both the Federal and Provincial levels. Daniel will be leading Progressa’s relationships within the industry of receivables with both the collection agencies and law firms while supporting various growth strategies at the enterprise level.
Kiya Hushyar joins Progressa with over 20 years of accounting, finance and risk management experience of which 12 years was specialized within the financial services industry. He is a pragmatic, results-oriented professional that has a successful track record of building and leading high performance finance teams, as well as a strong aptitude in business development, operational structuring and talent management.
Prior to taking on this role Kiya was an executive consultant with Coast Capital Savings in their effort in becoming a National Credit Union with his main emphasis focused on capital, liquidity and regulatory compliance.
Part of Kiya’s extensive experience comes from working across the audit and enterprise risk function at Deloitte where he was on the national credit union council and led Deloitte’s micro-community that was dedicated to working with credit unions. Some of the financial services companies that Kiya has worked with include Coast Capital, First West, VanCity, Marsh and Phillips, Hager & North.
Karim is a Senior Product, Strategy and Technology executive with more than 25 years’ success and experience in retail financial services and financial technology in both B2B and B2C environments. His background consists of contributions in start-up, growth, enterprise and Fortune 500 companies that include Crelogix, CustomHouse/Western UNion, Trimble, Trintech and TIO Networks. Karim is a Concept through Execution leader with a track record in providing results in both web and mobile channels in organizations that range from $40 million to $4 billion in revenue. He has a MBA in the Management of Technology from SFU.
Christy has been a Strategic Planning and Project professional for over 15 years having implemented Strategic Project Management Office’s in several industries and a variety of organization types. In each case, establishing a Strategic Project office was done from the ground up leaving behind a fully integrated, projectized infrastructure for companies to plan, execute and measure the success of strategic initiatives based on corporate goals. Christy has also executed several multi-million dollar, transformational projects at Volkswagen Canada, Patheon Pharmaceuticals and other organizations. Using her extensive experience in Project Management, Change Management and Business Architecture, Christy will provide Progressa the framework for doing the right projects and doing the projects right. Christy is a graduate of the University of Guelph and holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
Nathan is veteran of the Canadian Fintech space with a deep background in online, non-prime lending. In 2000, he co-founded Credilogic, Canada's first exclusively online lending platform. Under his leadership, Credilogic enjoyed a CARG of 40% over 11+ years. Nathan grew the platform to over $130m in loan originations prior to a successful exit. After the sale of Credilogic, Nathan continued his tenure in the Fintech space by leading the seed round at then start-up Progressa in 2014. He has since played an active role in the growth and development of the company, helping to steer operational and technology strategy.
